The new Burpham Photography competition culminates at the judging and display at the Village Fair in July.

Many residents take photographs using our mobile phones or from a traditional camera and selection of lenses.  We take snaps of our family and friends, post pictures of our meals on facebook, and return from holiday having photographed some of the wonderful sights we experienced.  All of us have the ability to take good photographs, and sometimes a great one.  If this sounds like you, then this is the competition for you.

The competition is for the best photograph of Burpham.  It should be uniquely Burpham so can be of people going about their daily lives, the architecture or natural environment, but must be taken from within the Ward boundaries – if you are uncertain about those boundaries, check with the BCA Secretary.  The deadline for entries has been extended to 30th September 2025.  You can enter up to three images, but they must be your own original work.

Competition Classes:

This competition has two classes: the first is for photographers who are 18 years of age or under on the entry date, and the second is for those who are over 18 on that date.

Judging:

Judges have been selected for their artistic and photographic expertise.  They will review all entries and award one prize for each class, plus Highly Commended mentions to outstanding images.  The photographs will be judged purely on photographic merit.

The judges will base their selection on the best response to the brief so remember to keep composition in mind.  Composing your picture is more important than any technical aspects – at the end of the day this is a photographic competition so the judges are looking for the best pictures.

• Highly commended – £10
• All winning images will be displayed at the Burpham Fair on 12 July 2025 and featured on the BCA website and in Burpham Pages.

How to Enter:

1. The competition is open now and will remain open until 30 June 2025.
2. Digital images should be in either .jpg or .tiff formats, and at least 1500 x 1000 pixels; printed images should be on photographic paper and be at least A4 in size.
3. Send your photographs to us at secretary@burphamca.org.uk or to 2 Winterhill Way, Burpham.  In your covering e-mail/note, please confirm the name of the image (file name), your name and contact details, and entry category.  We will acknowledge by e-mail all entries received: if you do not receive an acknowledgement within a few days, please check with us.
4. Your photographs will be held by the BCA who may choose to use the image in one or more of their newsletters or other publications, including the website.

Competition Rules

1. Entry is open to anyone who lives, works, studies or meets in Burpham.
2. All images must address the brief of Burpham.
3. You must not enter images which have been published previously in print or been selected as winners in other competitions.
4. Images must have been taken within the past twelve months.
5. A maximum of three entries per person.
6. Entries must be submitted by midnight on 30 June 2025 to be considered by the judges.
7. Entrants accept that by submitting their images to the competition, they agree for those images to be used by the Burpham Community Association to promote the Association and its events.  We will not share your images with third parties without your consent.
8. All winning entries will be announced at the Village Fair on 12 July 2025, and prizes awarded by the Deputy Mayor.
9. Any questions should be directed to the BCA Secretary, whose decision is final.
