Burpham will be impacted by this major development; you have until Saturday 27th September to submit comments.
Burpham Community Association strongly recommend that you take this opportunity to protect Burpham’s interests.
The Burpham Community Association has identified the following key concerns:
• construction traffic – during the first phase of building, for at least 2 years, all construction traffic will access the site via London Road, New Inn Lane and Merrow Lane; we consider this dangerous and the roads unsuitable for this
• domestic & commercial traffic – the additional traffic to and from a development of this size will place a significant additional burden on Burpham’s already constricted road infrastructure increasing the risk of accidents, delays, the use of side roads as rat-runs and pollution
• utilities – 1,800 new homes will create a huge demand on our utilities such as electricity, water and sewage which are already overstretched. To protect Burpham, we want the required upgrades completed before development begins
• access – we consider having only a single way in and out of such a large development and only providing direct access to and from the A3 Southbound, totally inadequate; we strongly advocate a four way junction with the A3.
About the proposed development
The Martin Grant Homes outline planning application proposes 1,800 new homes plus commercial, retail, school and community infrastructure and a Park and Ride.
Plans for a new East Guildford railway station and vehicle access from the south of the site (ie: towards Merrow) have been dropped.
You can view the planning application documents on the GBC Planning portal here; it comprises over 170 separate documents and drawings many of which are large and highly technical; of these we would recommend reading the Sr planning statement.
